Tempest Tool & Machine, Inc. was founded in 1979 as a specialty machine shop.  While others worked in the mold and die industries, we worked to fill a gap in the specialty toolmaking business, especially in the area of gaging.

 

In 1991 we added 3D wireframe CAD/CAM using Computervision Personal Designer.  Our experience in 3D CAD design has given us a real advantage in our design and machining capabilites.  

 

In 1997 we added a Brown and Sharpe MicroXcel PFX UHA coordinate measuring machine.  This gave us the ability to provide final inspections of our products using a machine with repeatability and accuracy within 1 micron (.001 mm/.00004").  In 2018 we upgraded from our original Brown and Sharpe CMM to a Hexagon Metrology Global S 7.10.7 CMM.  With this we maintained our measurement accuracy and increased our machine size and efficiency.

 

In 2000, we transitioned to 3D parametric solid modelling using Solidworks.

 

Over the years we have continually tried to keep our machines and other equipment at the leading edge of technology in order to maintain the quality and accuracy that gaging demands.  This includes CNC mills, lathes, and a new Jones & Shipman CNC ID/OD universal grinder.
